Benny’s edged out of Coke tourney

The victory will see Bela Bela going into the national finals of this competition.

Benny’s Sports Academy was edged out of the COPA Coca-Cola Provincial finals following their 6-5 defeat on penalties by Bela Bela High School. Both teams played to a 2-all draw in the entire minutes of regulation time.

The victory will see Bela Bela going into the national finals of this competition. The school was placed in Group B with Morwathebe Secondary School and had to play their group opponents twice to advance to the finals.

Their opening game saw them easily march to a comfortable 5-0 victory which was followed by a comfortable 2-0 win to help them secure a place in the finals.

Former champions and tournament favourites, Benny Sports Academy had a tough opening match against Makikela Secondary School whom they narrowly edged 1-0 while their second and final group match saw them ease past Bjatladi Secondary School 4-1 to set up a final against Bela Bela High School.

Having experienced COPA Coca-Cola National Finals success for two consecutive years, Benny’s Sports Academy was determined to represent their province at the COPA Coca-Cola National Finals.

However, following a highly competitive and evenly balanced 2-2 draw after extra-time, it was Bela Bela High School who emerged victorious with a 6-5 penalty shoot-out victory.

With Bela Bela securing the right to reach National Finals set to take place in Port Elizabeth between September 26 to 29, the global U15 school’s tournament heads to its final stop to determine who will be the final school to book a place in the highly anticipated COPA Coca-Cola National Finals.

Tournament ambassador, Jabu “Shuffle” Mahlangu alongside a team of talent scouts comprising of former players in Simba Marumo, Jabulani Mendu and SA U17 assistant coach, Vela Khumalo, have been hand picking the talented players who will have an opportunity to be part of a unique training camp scheduled to take place at the High-Performance Centre later this year.
