September 24, a day of celebrating cultural diversity

Welcoming the month of heritage.

As we are in a month that is known as heritage month to many people need to understand what heritage refers to. Heritage Month is where individuals celebrate their roots and learn more about where they come from.

Many might think it is just a holiday where they rest and stay away from work but the honest truth is it means a lot to Africans.

Each and every year the government comes up with a different theme for the moth and this year it is guided by the theme celebrating our crafts, our heritage.

Crafts have always been part of the human generation since ages ago, in the history of the human kind you get to learn more about crafts that our great ancestors used to do by using wood and drawing on halls to mark that they have been there.

How people used to make plates and cups out of wood long before there were plates and mugs. In most ethnic group is known for their different crafts, for example, Ndebele’s are known for their colourful house graphics.

This is where all Africans celebrate their sculptures made out of woods, beads, paintings, traditional designs. We celebrate the creativity of everyone who can turn nothing into something, the struggle of people who can turn a stem into a human being and how they can use recyclable materials into something interesting.

Everyone belongs to a certain group of people and they do everything differently. Heritage refers to different dances, food, clothes, language and many more. Knowing more about your sense of belonging is important so that you can have a background of who you really are.
