29 cops who died on duty to be honoured

Please join the police in partnership to put an end to attacks on and murder of its members.

The South African Police Service will be hosting its annual Commemoration Day ceremony in honour of 29 members who lost their lives in the line of duty between April 1, 2017, and March 31, 2018.

During the ceremony, families, friends and colleagues of the deceased members and the leadership of the Department of Police will lay wreaths as they pay a special tribute to the fallen heroes and heroines.

Following Cabinet’s clarion call to recognize and celebrate the lives of our heroes and heroines, SAPS want to urge all in South Africa to observe at least a moment of silence on Sunday morning.

The department calls on all to observe a moment of silence during religious ceremonies. Furthermore, all flags at the SAPS 1146 police stations nationwide, will fly at half-mast from August 31 to September 2.

Since 2014, the month of September has been declared National Police Safety month, a period in which awareness on police safety is increased and measures to reduce attacks and/or killings of our members are highlighted.

Please join the police in partnership to put an end to attacks on and murder of its members.
