The future looks promising for the Superfins Swimming Club
The Superfins Swimming Club from Coronationville has been nominated for 'the most promising team' award after eight years of existence.
The Superfins Swimming Club from Coronationville has been nominated for ‘the most promising team’ award after eight years of existence.
According to the clubs’ manager, Naseema Venter, the club is shortlisted with the two other teams being Pimville Stars Football Academy Senior Team and Troyeville Primary School U13 Boys Volleyball Team.
“It’s a hell of a compliment, we have been working very hard to get Superfins on the map and it’s a nice feeling to know that our hard work has been noticed. We finally being noticed not just in the community but outside of the community as well,” said Venter.
When asked about her expectations for the club, the manager said: “My expectations for the club is to just get more noticed and one of the things that I personally want to achieve with Superfins is that I want us to become one of the most sought out clubs for community-based swimmers.
“Currently, we have swimmers from Soweto, Eldorado Park, we have swimmers coming from Lenasia and they come every day for training so we not just focusing on the directed community.
“If parents don’t have enough money to take their children to the swimming clubs outside of our area then they have Superfins.”

This is the first time that the club has been nominated and also qualified for this award. Just to mention a few of the clubs’ achievements over the season: a swimmer went to Tanzania, they had two swimmers who went to Italy.
One swimmer qualified for Nationals and the club had swimmers who qualified for Regionals as well as Provincial.
“We had a really great season behind us and we hope that the next will be like this or even better.
“We currently have 60 swimmers but we had a little bit of a problem since the Coronationville pool has been out of service so we didn’t have much pool time at the beginning of the season.
The pool is fixed now so we hope that the swimmers will all return.” Since head coach Ramon Coutriers left the club Junaid Scheepers has been completing courses and assessments in order to take the position of head coach.
Venter said that as a finalist the club already received R7000 and then if they win the most promising team award they will receive R15 000. According to Venter, the event of announcing the winner will be on September 2.
