Ward 14 gets a new small business forum

"If you are not academically gifted, it doesn’t mean you must force yourself to get a qualification."

The first meeting for Ward 14’s latest business forum was held last Saturday in Protea North with the aim of converging business owners in the area.

The Small Business Forum will be a space in which young entrepreneurs can get practical business advice and mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs.

It will also serve as a space in which solutions to the challenges facing the community are discussed according to founder, Guy Morabe.

Morabe also noted that the forum would serve as a place that would help give youth an alternative to the academic route by coming together and lobbying for facilities that would assist youth who have chosen not to take the academic route.

“If you are not academically gifted, it doesn’t mean you must force yourself to get a qualification. You can make money out of sports but because we don’t have the facilities it becomes difficult for the youth to do this. We want to come in and encourage the development of a sports complex in the area,” Morabe explained.

Another issue on the forum’s agenda is the alleged influx of foreign-owned shops in the area and the detriment they are allegedly causing to South African owned businesses.

“We have spoken about people who come in and do as they please, we also spoke about the leisure industries that hire foreign nationals while we have unemployed graduates, so this structure will not be linear, it will be multi-faceted.

“It will look at crime, it will look at youth unemployment and anything that affects us negatively in this community but it will be centred around business,” explained Bheki Sibeko.

Those interested in joining the forum can contact Guy Morabe on 084 275 2366 for more information.
