Meet Joburg Water’s female meter reader
Koto is making waves in a male-dominated industry.
As we continue to celebrate women, we came across a female Johannesburg Water (JW) Meter Auditor Patience Koto
Koto started working at JW in 2009 as a General Worker and later was promoted into a meter reader.
Her passion and dedication to her work earned her a position as a meter auditor which is her current position.
Her love for working with people influenced her to go back to school to study plumbing so that she can excel in her career.
Like any other worker Koto sometimes face challenges such as being chased away by property owners or being attacked by angry customers.
“When I started, I was just a general worker who was operating sewer and I had the most supportive team that encouraged me to further my studies. I believe that I will be a team leader one day,” confidently said Koto.
She said her husband is supportive and understanding to the type of job she does. She added that instead, the husband is one of the people who encourage her to do more.
Like any other women in the world, Koto has to balance her personal life and professional life which she does with the help from the love of her life.
