WATCH: EFF marches against abuse in Chiawelo

EFF hosts this on-going campaign to voice their anger against violence against women and children.

In an effort to fight against the abuse of women and children, members of the Economic Freedom Fighters embarked on a march to raise awareness about the importance of women and children. The march started at Senaoane and went on to neighbouring areas including Phiri and Dlamini.

According to Jabu Molobela, the march was aimed at mobilising and raising awareness in the community that they are totally against women and child abuse.

“We want people to know that the EFF is the organisation of the people and everyone is welcome to join us,” said Molobela.

He said domestic abuse and violence against women and children are often unreported due to the victims’ fear and were encouraging the victims to report such incidents.

The EFF hosts this on-going campaign to voice their anger against violence against women and children.

One of the campaign members, Victoria Mabaso, supported the initiative and said they have to find ways of making their homes and communities safe for all, especially for women and children.

Violence against women takes many forms including physical, sexual, economic and psychological among others and all of these represent a violation of human dignity and human rights and have lasting consequences both for women and for their communities.

The EFF has many branches and they recently opened another one at Mapetla ward 16 and representatives were elected to represent EFF members in the ward.

According to Tshepo Malinga, one of the members, the branch was established so that the community can vote for leaders who will help the community in service delivery and deal with issues affecting the community.

He said as the EFF they have noticed some issues in the community which needs to be fixed such as the issues of poor service delivery in their areas and are aiming to deal with the situations. “Illegal dumping is also one of the issues we need to address,” said Malinga.

He added that “they have noted with concern the poor condition of their flats and they have been trying to get help. The crime rate has also increased. Such issues need to be addressed and we must find a way to fight crime,” said Malinga.

The party is also campaigning for people who want to be members of the EFF and aims to help their members to benefit from access to new business opportunities, new customers and suppliers, and a wide range of business support services and resources.
