Sam Retief was born and raised in Eldorado Park. She is a wife and a mother to two daughters. Retief is a BCom Law graduate and holds a post-graduate degree in Contracts.

She is the co-founder and a minister of Ignite Ministries and is a multiple business owner of learning centres and a FET College.

The announcement of the Top 25 was made during a star-studded red carpet Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa Charity Ball dinner in aid of Women4Women at the Emperors Palace on June 29 this year.

According to Retief, the annual event has earned an honourable reputation for raising copious amounts of money for the Cancer Association of South Africa each year.

It is also always a glamorous affair and the perfect opportunity for guests to dust off their glass slippers and be treated to a delectable dinner while viewing a seamless stage production.

Hosted by the sensational Pabi Moloi, the guests were entertained to music by proudly South African all-girl group instrumentalists, the Muses, as well as an incredible fashion show powered by Contempo Retail.

It was an important occasion on the Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa calendar too, as the top 100 semi-finalists, announced four months ago, recounted their journey of workshops, networking, judging and rehearsing when the announcement of the final top 25 was made.

Retief said she was elated and leapt with great joy and excitement when her name was announced as a Top 25 Tammy Taylor Mrs SA title holder.

“I am so excited and grateful to have been given this once-in-a-lifetime transformative opportunity. It’s an MBA of life. This platform will help me to inspire hope in my community and to become and continue to be a catalyst and voice for change through education, impact-driven and sustainable projects.

“I believe you grow by taking others with you and this journey has truly taught me the power of believing in yourself, breaking through your own limitations and becoming the best version in the design God has for your life.

“My husband and my daughters have been my greatest source of support and fuel in pursuit of my purpose and vision; I love and adore them so much! Thank you to my extended family, congregation, friends and community who have truly shown me the spirit of Ubuntu. I’m reminded that if you want to walk fast, walk alone, but if you want to walk far, walk together. There is power and blessing in unity.

“Thank you to our amazing judges and remarkable sponsors and the phenomenal management team of Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa for your confidence in me,” said Retief.

Sam Retief has her eye set on scooping the prize.

Judges Vusi Zwane, Hlengiwe Twala, Leanne Dlamini, Chris Jaftha, Mel Viljoen and principal judge Cindy Nell-Roberts admitted to this being the hardest round of judging thus far as all semi-finalists had inspired them and displayed beauty, grace and dedication.

The top 25 finalists will now embark on a journey of fundraising, networking and self-development until the final round of judging, to crown the Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa 2019 winner.

SABC 3 will broadcast content featuring the top 25 finalists as well as the crowning of Mrs South Africa 2019, taking place at Emperor’s Palace on November 9 and will air on November 10 at 6.30 pm. The title winner will represent the country internationally at the Mrs World pageant.
