National Basketball Association top player Carmelo Anthony said this is the 24th courts for kids that they have unveiled around the world and the first in African.

“It’s not just about giving a basketball court, these are steps we are taking to uplift areas and neighbourhoods like the one I grew up in Baltimore; neighbourhoods that people have forgotten about.

“They are neighbourhoods, I’m familiar with and it’s important to make people believe in those areas because it’s not about drugs and crime but people had talent,” said Anthony.

Soweto Academy Basketball coach Jacob Tsaine said he is happy but not only for his Academy but for the community at large. Banda said it’s through sport that we can build a better nation.

He wished and hope that they can build a better partnership in the future with the donors. He added that with the facility provided they will produce their own South African Anthony.

City of Johannesburg MMC of Community Development, Nonhlanhla Sifumba extended her gratitude towards the superstar.

“Thank you so much for considering the City of Johannesburg and community of Jabavu to be the specific area that you want to see children getting off the streets and children enhancing their skills in terms of sport.

“It’s important that each person should take care of this court and we shouldn’t allow drug addicts and litter in order for them to come back and invest in Soweto,” she said.
