Top brass applaud Soweto East Cluster police’s crime-fighting successes

"The Soweto East Cluster is gradually becoming a better place to live in, one step at a time."

The Eldorado Park South African Police Services (SAPS) are working together to combat crime within the area.

“With the help of our community, even more arrests can be made. We want to remind people that no crime is too small to be reported,” said the Soweto East cluster commander major general Patricia Rampota.

The Soweto East Cluster, which includes the Eldorado Park SAPS, released a statement warning members of the public to be more vigilant as criminal activities are occurring on a daily basis.

On August 8, the Soweto Flying Squad was conducting their routine patrol duties along Kremetart Street in Extension Three when they spotted a suspicious motor vehicle with two occupants between the ages of 25 and 32.

The Soweto East Cluster are stepping up efforts to reduce crime in the area.

According to police, they tried to stop the vehicle but the driver sped off. The police managed to corner the suspects and eventually succeeded in apprehending them. The suspects were caught with an unlicensed firearm and house-breaking equipment.

According to the Kliptown police communications officer, captain Hitler Ngwenya, the suspects are to be linked to all the corresponding crimes and are to appear in court soon, after which they will be charged.

Rampota said the exceptional job doesn’t go unnoticed. “The police, in collaboration with the public, have done a spectacular job. We thrive to better the lives and security of all the members of the public. The commitment and dedication of the police and the members of the public is exceptional. The Soweto East Cluster is gradually becoming a better place to live in, one step at a time,” she said.

Residents within the Soweto East Cluster are encouraged to report any suspicious activities at their local police station.
