Protea mom of two juggles business, studying and raising her boys to carve her own path

Lorato Mekgoe from Protea Glen in Soweto is a mother of two, a businesswoman, a tax consultant, a beautician, and a student who still manages to organise her time and switch between tasks.

Having to study, take care of her two sons, attend to her clients and doing great as a tax consultant, she still made time to open her own business and grow.

Flourish Lifestyle, that’s the name of her business, a mobile spa. Mekgoe feels that the gender gap and struggles in the business industry are still problematic.

“As a young woman and new in the entrepreneurship industry, I still think gender equality is still a challenge in South Africa. Women are still undermined to some extent, but I’m not here to complain, mine is to work hard, prosper and break these stereotypes,” said Mekgoe.

Her brilliant entrepreneurial idea, Flourish Lifestyle, brings all the pampering and preening you could ever need away from the salon, and right to your own home. Her clients don’t have to go to her spa, she goes to them.

“We target, conferences, outdoor events, bridal showers, kiddies’ event, conferences and many more,” said Mekgoe.
“I am a dreamer, I have set goals for myself and I still keep a diary, I do schedule planning that helps a lot. My success is also made possible by my employees,” she added.

Studying towards a degree in BCom Financial Management, Mekgoe said in five years’ time she sees herself as one of the leading female entrepreneurs in the country. Then, she will give support to young and aspiring entrepreneurs.
