‘When women support one another, incredible things happen’

"If we respect one another, put aside our differences and work together, we can do wonders-not only for our families, but for our community as well."

Eldorado Park women were treated to a lunch organised by Florence Steenkamp at the Albertus Pop Centre in Extension Eight on Women’s Day. The day’s theme placed strong emphasis on sisterhood. Steenkamp said that she chose this theme to remind women that even though no one’s path is the same, the bond created by sisters will remain forever strong.

Lesley-Ann Harnick (32) and Theoline Steenkamp assisted aunty Florence with all the lunch preparations.

“If we respect one another, put aside our differences and work together, we can do wonders-not only for our families, but for our community as well,” she said.

The Women’s Day lunch was planned as an opportunity for women of all ages to come together, socialise and share their experiences and words of encouragement.

“Our elderly women shared their life experiences with those younger than them. our young people seemed to have listened and that is all I wanted – advice to be passed down to our youngsters. Our elderly ladies have so much wisdom, we can learn a lot from those around us,” said Steenkamp.

The table and chairs at the hall were decorated beautifully and all the seats were filled. Lunch was served at 2pm and the rest of the afternoon was left for the women to mingle and get to know one another.

Steenkamp said that she was grateful for her family and close friends who always rally around her to help. “I couldn’t have pulled this off without them. Thank you to everyone who contributed to a successful event. The women truly enjoyed enjoyed themselves,” she added.
