Consumerism is slowly evolving to incorporate as many different facets of human needs as possible and adding to the economy in a profound way.
This shift in consumerism is also slowly filtering into our communities through initiatives such as the Social Market which takes place at Jabulani Mall.
The Social Market consists of different businesses from Soweto who use stalls to display and sell their products and services.

As the Social Market is gradually gaining momentum, this month’s Social Market featured about ten businesses ranging from media and photography, clothing, accessories and authentic artworks, to name a few.
“This provides with an opportunity to reach a larger market than we do in our confined spaces and most importantly, we feel like we are getting closer to pushing the movement of selling and buying proudly South African and local goods,” said Karabo Chalsea.
The sentiment at the social market is that there is ample space and opportunity for more sales, thus both business owners and the mall alike invite the public to buy from and interact with the market and are open to suggestions on how the market can improve for more sales in next month’s edition.
