Man arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

People continue to lose their lives to unlicensed firearms in the hands of the criminals. As a result, police are continuing their efforts in making sure that our homes, streets and cities are safe places for the millions of law-abiding citizens in the country.

This stance is bearing fruit and Dobsonville police officers were thrilled to announce the arrest of a 33-year-old man found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and two rounds of ammunition on July 24.

The arrest is a victory to many of our countrymen who continue to be the victims of robbery, rape and murder by criminals in possession of these unlicensed firearms.

According to Dobsonville Police spokesperson, constable Mzwakhe Xazi, said, “Police were conducting a roadblock in Elias Motswaledi Road next to the Dobsonville Clinic.

“They stopped a Toyota Quantum vehicle occupied by four men and two women. We searched the occupants and one of the men was in possession of an unlicensed 9 mm pistol and two rounds of ammunition.

“The man could not produce a firearm license and was taken into police custody,” said Xazi.

He said the suspect has already appeared at the Roodepoort Magistrate Court and police are continuing with their investigations.
