“No to flats in Riverlea Extension 3”

Roads were closed off with old bricks, rubble, rocks, fences and burning tyres.

Residents of Riverlea protested the development of flats in the area starting before dawn this morning.

According to a resident from Ext 3, this follows a meeting a group of residents had with the property developers and the police from the Langlaagte Police Station.

A few days after the meeting was held the property developers fenced off the land and had a security box built.

Roads were closed off with old bricks, rubble, rocks, fences and burning tyres.

Residents took it as a sign that the property developers meeting with them was in vain as they seemed to be going ahead with their plan and seemed not to be taking residents’ concerns into consideration.

This is, however, the third protest against the development in the area but it seems that the fight will continue.

The few residents in the streets say that they will protest all day just to show the developers that their plans are not welcomed in the community. Roads are currently being opened by police officers and drivers who are passing through the area.

#NoFlats was sprayed on a wall during the first protest against property developers.
