ANC members say “Thuma mina”
ANC Joe Gqabi branch vows to assist phase one residents to resolve electricity issue.
ANC Joe Gqabi branch held a Thuma Mina campaign this morning which culminated in a public meeting at Itemogele Primary School in Protea Glen.
Residents raised the burning issue of electricity in the phase one area to the ANC members. They blockaded roads leading into the area in the recent past.
“The challenges regarding the Eskom issues need to be addressed. It cannot be addressed by the councillor, or by us [ANC branch leadership]. We need to bring together leadership from Eskom and leadership from the ANC to find an amicable solution,” said Noncebo Molwele, a senior member of the ANC Joe Gqabi Branch.
Efforts to find solutions to the problem have however been marred by tensions between the community and the ward 13 councillor, George Mahlangu.
“It is by human nature that when people are frustrated they must have somebody to blame. The councillor is a bridge between the community and government so if he gets frustrated by not getting answers we’re saying that it is proper that he goes back to the community and requests their assistance,” Molwele continued.
The branch members have vowed to assist residents find a solution to this issue even if it means taking to the streets with them according to Molwele.
ANC MP Bob Mabaso has urged community members to also get involved in the Thuma Mina campaign as it is not only limited to the ANC but rather to all South Africans.
