‘I don’t need therapy, I just need to play a game of pool’

Meet the pool boys.

The Ubuntu Pool League is currently made up of 18 teams, each with a maximum of 15 registered pool players.

The league was formed by pool loving people from Soweto, Eldorado Park, Ennerdale, Naturena and Lenasia who all share the same passion for pool and have a common goal to unite all pool players to assist in reaching the full potential of the unique sport.

The league games resume in March until December when the league has their year-end prize giving ceremony for all 18 teams.

The league has many objectives including encouraging the youth to stay off harmful drugs and other illegal substances, harnessing the youth’s energies into playing pool and building bridges among different ethnicities, as well as embracing all diverse religions and cultures.

The league prides itself on grooming youngsters into future champions, who will wear national colours and represent South Africa abroad.

Ubuntu Pool League is a region of Central Gauteng which is affiliated to Pool South Africa(PSA) and will be sending one team to participate in the South African Open National Championships.

Pool has recently grown in South Africa and has become one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Being a newly recognized sport in South Africa, Pool does not have major sponsors, therefore leaving the players and provinces to pay the costs by themselves.

This prestigious tournament will be held at Kleinplasie in the Worcester region. The tournament commences on the October 5 until the 13th this year.

“This is hereby a request for any forms of sponsorship, either by sponsoring individuals or the full team. If the team sponsorship is done, sponsors can be assured that the team will as a means of advertising bear the emblem of the sponsor at the championships on our event T-shirts,” said league chairperson, Shane Goliath.

“Sponsorship can be made as either a cash value or payment to suppliers for the kit, PSA fees which includes team registration, affiliation, singles, doubles and table fees. Accommodation and or transport for the tournament is needed as well,” he added.
