WATCH: Up and coming artists learn more about blowing up their music

Knowledge is power.

Funda means Learn and the Joy of Jazz (JoJ) workshop that took place at Funda Centre brought nothing but relevant and essential lessons for the youth of Soweto who could make it to the centre in Diepkloof with the yearning to know more about blowing up.

Like Innovating Kasi Organisation’s (IKO)’s Thato Mogwera, who felt compelled to attend the workshop for the benefit of IKO’s artists and affiliates.

Azania’s Sibulele Maggwashe explained how the workshop was sharing the knowledge which has been the stepping stone for most successful artists and the rightful procedures of how to reap from their talents.

Maggwashe said, “Knowledge is power, and the JoJ was at the centre to share the information that usually hinders most young upcoming and ambitious artists from breaking through the industry.

“Some constraints blocking most artists are unavoidable because they are lawful, so the JoJ came to shed the light on all those matters.”

The workshop was well attended and facilitated and the upcoming artists who make various genres all sat and paid their attention to the speakers who narrated real past stories of how some talented artists got robbed of their rightful earnings from their music and vocals because of getting carried away.

Kefilwe Raboshaga from Klipsruit related to feeling the burning passion of just walking inside of any studio and just doing your thing, however, she also learned how to take precaution, she said, “After hearing about how important paperwork is in the music industry, I realise that it is not wise to just record your music with random people because they have the studio.”

Mogwera said, “We are here to collect information for our artists about the business side of the music industry, how to properly make royalties and all the other benefits their careers bear.”

The workshop covered pretty much everything from royalties and income streams to music copyrights.
