The AlignEd Foundation spent their 67 minutes for Mandela Day to empower the children from Riverlea High School.

The AlignEd Foundation joined by the Elizabeth. J. Williams Charity went to the high school to introduce the Grade 11 learners and RCL’s of the school to a board game that is meant empower them and also teaches them more about our former president Nelson Mandela.

The board game was first established in 2014 as Choices for the workplace in Maropeng. It was then adapted in 2017 as Choices for Mandela day at the Rand Show as Nelson Mandela exhibit.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of the Aligned Foundation, Angela James said: “The game I called choices was developed as a means to teach people to move from being entitled to be empowered and living empowered lives.”

The game is based on the life of Nelson Mandela this benefits the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The game is linked to two things one being the youth and the choices they make, together with the life of Nelson Mandela and the choices he made in his lifetime.

This teaches the youth a lot about Nelson Mandela because they do not or might not know a lot about him. It influences the youth to make more positive choices in their lives going forward.

This board game uses choices from past, present and future. It gives the learners a view of their past choices and present choices and how it will affect their lives in the future.

Originally the AlignEd Foundation was going to give this event at Constitution Hill where they were going to have 28 schools, but due to another event taking place where they had to change their plans and go to Riverlea High School.

According to James, the reason for them choosing Riverlea High is because of the incredible community engagement and community connection. The organisation was introduced to the Riverlea community by Member of Executive Council (MEC) Faith Mazibuko.

The AlignEd Foundation decided to make Riverlea their starting point of The Choices game 100 years to celebrate Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu lives until the end of February next year.
