Itumeleng Day Care honours Mandela’s centenary

Honouring Madiba's legacy.

Keletso Mavis Malese, the principal of Itumeleng Day Care based in Protea South took the initiative to commemorate 100 years of Nelson Mandela’s legacy on July 18 with the children at the day care centre assisted by the teachers.

To honour Mandela’s legacy, a walk was organised from the centre to Protea Gardens Mall, they were accompanied by the South African Police Service (SAPS) of Protea.

The biggest purpose of the walk was not only based on celebrating Mandela’s legacy but to also infuse the knowledge and importance of this day to the children of the daycare, through this Malese hopes the little ones will follow in the footsteps of a great leader which include equality and humanity. Malese indeed lives up to the slogan of the daycare, ‘we don’t keep children, we develop them’.

Malese believes she is grooming stars that will be the leaders of tomorrow, hence she educates and instils the legacy and history Mandela left behind.

“Today I am proud of Tata because he gave me the courage to be a businesswoman and benefit other people, he also taught me not to give up if I want my dreams to come true and it is what I am teaching the little ones,” Malese said.

The principal refers to children as a blessing and she lives to inspire them with the courage and perseverance she has in life. With the magnificent help from the teachers, she believes they have learnt the importance of Mandela Day including the legacy he left behind for South Africans and them included.

“I feel like I touch a life by doing the little that I do. After today, I’m excited to see my little ones receiving the knowledge about Mandela and celebrate the legacy that is also for them at a young age,” Malese expressed.

Malese further said that “I did not do this to benefit myself but to enrich the children at my daycare with what Nelson Mandela valued the most.”

According to Malese Mandela day could not be celebrated any other way but making her children happy and informed of important days like this one at her own expenses.
