VIDEO: Clinix honours the elderly

The elderly people were treated to massages, lunch and traditional performances.

Kgolo Matseke (Clinix Executive Project Manager) cut the cake on behalf of his father and in honour of Nelson Mandela.

Clinix Health Group hosted 200 elderly people at GOG Lifestyle in Protea Glen as part of their Mandela Day celebrations last Wednesday.

The elderly people were treated to massages, lunch and traditional performances. Clinix marketing director, Matshepo Majola, said Clinix chose to celebrate the elderly this Mandela Month as they have been supporting the health group consistently over the year.

“They are the wise people who have guided us, the wise people who have stood the test of time through good and bad times to where we are today. With Clinix having been in communities, they are the people who have been supporting us,” said Majola.

The elderly were also gifted with blankets to keep them warm through the remaining cold winter months. “We are very happy about this wonderful event that Clinix hosted for us, we don’t get to go out much so we got a chance to go out,” said Paulina Mohamme, one of the elderly people who attended the event.

Ward 135 councillor, Elliot Sithole spoke out passionately against those who speak ill of former president Nelson Mandela’s legacy.

“People are always talking about Mandela, forgetting Mandela led as a collective so the ANC took a decision to say that we’ll nationalize at a later stage. It was not Mandela alone, so if you’re saying Nelson Mandela sold out, it must be cancelled,” Sithole alluded.

Sithole took the opportunity to wish Mandela and the Clinix Health Group CEO, Dr Khamane Matseke, a happy birthday as he celebrated his birthday last month. The Clinix Health Group will be adding a new hospital to the stable.

Construction for Dr Nthato Motlana Memorial Hospital will begin in Protea Glen next to Protea Glen Mall in a week. The hospital will have a specific focus on female healthcare as the late doctor and activist Dr Nthato Motlana was passionate about the health of women.

“I am very glad that this hospital will have a particular focus on maternity and women’s health because that was one of his [Dr Nthato Motlana] passions. He wanted to specialise in obstetrics but couldn’t after he led a protest at Baragwanath hospital,” said Dr Mashadi Motlana, daughter to Dr Nthato Motlana.
