Young crooner and rapper, Kay-G SA is a phenomenal talent

Twenty-one-year-old Kagiso Komane from Riverlea spoke about his four years of experience in the local music industry. The young artist’s stage name is Kay-G SA and he does not like to box himself into a specific genre.

He said, “I do songwriting, rap, and I sing. I try not to dwell on rap but I like to go into other genres.”
The up-and-coming artist cites Drake, Tory Lanez and locally, AKA as his influences.

“I was seventeen years old when I discovered my passion for the music industry. I started writing my songs in my room and I use to make a lot of noise. My mum always shouted at me because of the noise I made. At the time that was just something I liked doing, it was not serious. When I started becoming serious, I recorded my songs and I let people listen to it,” said Komane.

According to the artist he got back great feedback from those who listened to his songs. Komane said that it was the good and bad experiences that got him to write his songs. Het said that he tried to take the positive side out of all of his experiences.

“I write about our lifestyle as the youth, I try to be honest with everything. I don’t sugarcoat things in my lyrics. Some people may like it and some may not,” he said.

The lyrics in his songs are mostly based on his previous relationships and the stuff that he learns from his friends and his surroundings. Komane writes for artists in the Soweto area and he plans on studying sound engineering. He said that the industry was tough and if you wait for someone to hold your hand, you’re going to fail. You have to work hard and if you cannot take the positives out of the negatives,  then the industry will spit you out.
