Kliptown Community Pre-school gets a facelift

“We target centres that are struggling to get funding, not only in Soweto but the whole of South Africa" - Reatile Foundation.

Face-lift underway.

Reatile Foundation, a Non-Profit Organisation aimed at eradicating inequality by improving the quality of life of disadvantaged communities, has embarked on few community projects in Soweto this year and have recently completed some renovations at Vakoma Old Age Home in Chiawelo and Retshepisitswe Pre-school in the past weeks.

The organisation is currently busy with the Kliptown Community Pre-School in Kliptown. The pre-school has over a hundred kids and was in a poor condition, the building was falling apart, with mouldy walls and plaster falling off, and thus creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment, making kids and employees negative about the pre-school.

Reatile Foundation saw the need to renovate and refurbish it to make kids and employees feel positive about their pre-school and make it attractive.

“We target centres that are struggling to get funding, not only in Soweto but the whole of South Africa. Buildings that are in good condition and attractive may signal to the caregivers and kids that someone cares and there is a positive social climate, which in turn may encourage better attendance for both kids and caregivers.

“This will also have a symbolic value and give a good impression about what goes on inside the centre,” said Debbie Letsoko, Reatile Foundation Trustee Administrator.

Mapule Motsepe, a principal at the Kliptown Community Pre-School said that the community and the kids’ parents are already noticing the changes and are proud of the centre.

“I am so happy, this will make a huge impact on our centre, I will also be proud to wake up every morning to come to work. Parents and the community as a whole are praising it already, the final product will definitely be beautiful,” said Motsepe.

“I appreciate the beautiful work that the Reatile Foundation is doing for us, I will make sure that the pre-school is being taken care of and does not go back to its old condition,” she added.

The Reatile Foundation is part of Reatile Group and serves a number of development and social upliftment projects, which include a tertiary education scholarship programme, community upliftment programmes, providing assistance to other Non-Profit Organisations and making a difference in disadvantaged communities.
