Uneven ground causing senior citizens to trip & fall

Senior citizens at the retirement village have always voiced their grievances when it came to their living conditions. From fixing leaking taps, grass cutting, safety to the seniors not having lights in the yard, over the year we have covered most of their complaints.
A resident by the name of Dianne Julius has been living at the Riverlea Retirement Village for eighteen years and her biggest concern seems to be the uneven grass around their units.
“It’s been like this all the years and many seniors fell and broke bones here. I also fell about three or four times here going out of the unit to hang my clothing on the washing lines.

“When we walk our ankles twist because the ground is very uneven. We have to wear extremely flat shoes. They say about ninety per cent of us here pay our rent but we do not get any services,” said Julius.
The senior recalls falling as she stepped out of her door, she slipped and fell on her back and knocked her head.
“My eyesight is very bad and now we have to focus and be very careful when we walking on this grass. When we walk on the paving we do not get hurt but we always hear that someone fell on the grass and that they in hospital, some of them even die after spending time in the hospital,” explained Julius.
According to the senior, her neighbour fell last month and broke her leg. She went on to explain that her neighbour’s leg was twisted and she had to sit on the grass for about three hours before the ambulance came.
Her neighbour is about seventy years old and is now in a wheelchair and lives with her children until she recovers.
She feels that the City barely cuts their grass so she does not see why they can’t remove the grass and replace it with paving through the village because she sees it as a safer option for all residents.
