WATCH: Young learners are our future

Youngsters solve big problems.

As schools are closed for the June holidays, Future Nation pupils were given a task to find a solution to the housing problems facing Protea Glen residents and how we can make electricity available to everyone.

The school held an exhibition where parents and the public people could view the innovative solutions the children found.

Each grade was presented with a problem which they needed to propose solutions to and the Grade 5s tackled the Protea Glen issue.

Nkazimulo Thomo said their task was to improve the prototype for a solid house which would be able to withstand severe winds and natural disasters.

Philasande Ngwenya and Ndivhuwo Lethole, who are Grade 8 learners, said their projects were based on chemistry and art.

The school also assisted them with funds as they believe that the theory they learn during class can be put it into practice.

Grade 9 pupils Thando Maqungo and Keabetswe Selau’s Africa presentation.

Thando Maqungo, who represented the Grade 9, said their focus was on learning more about the African continent and they designed a map of Africa with QR codes.

“We used paper and cardboard just to see how it would work out. We have incorporated geography, history, maths and creative arts into our project,” said Maqungo.

Keabetswe Selau talked more about the QR codes and the drum beats they used to add a more creative and make their project stand out from the rest.

Grade 9, Basa Metseeme, Kopano Mothibakgomo and Sibusiso Enock suggested solutions to the Protea Glen housing and electricity issue.
