Environmentorz urges youth to protect the environment

'June is not only Youth Month'.

Kaylene Jegels, Genevieve Hendricks, Julius Peterson, Shaun Sinclair, Ruwelle Valentine, and Acorn foundation members who came out to help promote a greener environment.

Eldorado Park’s very own environmental club, the Environmentorz are encouraging the youth in the community to start protecting the environment.

June is not only the Youth Month but Environment Month as well. Kaylene Jeges said in a statement: “For that reason, we are urging our youth to take the environment seriously.”

The Environmentorz plan to educate the community about what the environment is and what steps they should take to care for it.

“The environment is everything around us, plants, animals and the atmosphere. Everyone needs to know that we have a responsibility to conserve nature by looking after our natural resources and the environment as a whole,” said Jegels.

She added that it was time to recognise the immediate and potential threats that global warming poses to the environment. “Prioritising the reduction of our carbon footprint through our daily activities is important,” said Jegels.

The organisation has committed to embarking on environmentally friendly initiatives such as energy saving, water conservation processes and recycling paper.

According to the Environmentorz, 1000 kg of recycled paper saves up to 17 trees. As part this initiative, the organisation has committed to conducting cleanup campaigns, the first of which will be held at the ‘tennis court’ passage in Extension Two, where they will clean-up the area and lay new paving bricks.

One of the rights that feature in the South African Bill of Rights is the right to safe and clean environment. This right assumes the responsibility to promote sustainable development and the conservation and preservation of the natural environment.

“The best lesson we can learn is to look after our environment to conserve it for our future generations,” said the group.
