Alleged corruption at Noordgesig Primary

Community shocked following allegations of corruption at a school in Orlando.

On Monday, June 18, Democratic Alliance Constituency head of Soweto East cluster embarked on an unannounced visit in the project of Noordgesig Primary School.

This comes after Tshepo Mhlongo received complains that the was corruption in the school and that jobs are sold including school material.

He said there were allegations that the learners were not taught. Mhlongo also proved his allegations by visiting one of the houses where the school stove was spotted in around the area but the owner of the house denied ownership of the stove and said he was keeping it for a friend.

The Chief Liaising Officer of the project Raven Martin denied all the allegations that were made and said they will not allow corruption in the project. He added that they do not sell jobs but hire people who have submitted their curriculum vitae.

He said all locals who submitted their CV’s will benefit from the projects that include Small Medium Micro Enterprise. He said all the employed locals who are currently benefiting are from Ward 29.

Martin said all the demolished material belongs to the demolishing company and they have decided to sell the material so that they can accumulate more funds to pay the workers and denied any involvement.

16 locals employed in the Noordgesig project.

He alluded that the demolishing company sold the bricks to the locals and the metals to scrap yards. He pleaded with politicians not to use the construction site as a battlefield.

Martin said all people who visit the school should consult the councillors of Ward 29 and Ward 68.

“Everyone who visits the site must have a PPE and be granted permission by the councillors,” said Martin.

Updates on the projects are the children have moved to the temporal school on June 4 and the project is 11 days ahead. A local subcontractor has been appointed with 16 workers from Ward 29.
