WATCH: Let us blow the whistle on crime

Crime is cancer which eats at the moral fibre of the community, leaving children as orphans and able-bodied men and women paralysed.

Crime is cancer which eats at the moral fibre of the community, leaving children as orphans and able-bodied men and women paralysed. This harsh reality urged Creative Arts Safety and Environment Institution (CASE) safety keepers who devote their time and energy to blowing away crime in Dobsonville at all cost.

According to their chairperson, Bongani Shikuhele, they started the organisation last year to bring hope where there was once despair.

He said, “Crime is a result of neglecting our community, neglecting ourselves, the environment and our animals. Widespread neglect leads to an unsafe and a regressing environment.”

He said that such abnormal behaviours perpetuates the culture of individualism within the community.

Shikuhele said families who can afford to, end up building high walls and purchasing guns to protect their assets.

“It is unfortunate that when they leave the high walls surrounding their homes, they become targets of the criminal activities taking place in their community. It is because of this that we decided that crime-fighting needs a collective effort to make our township a better place to live in for future generations,” said Shikuhele.

CASE coordinator, Eric Ndou said they were patrolling the entire Sector Three in Dobsonville, but wanted to expand their operations to include the entire Dobsonville area.

He said since they started patrolling at night until the morning hours, crime has reduced and a measure of safety has been returned to the community.

“There are still some petty crimes like the theft of spiral light bulbs, gates and copper taps in our neighbourhood. We urge residents to blow the whistle whenever they see criminal activities taking place.

“We will report to the crime scene with immediate effect and arrest wrongdoers on the spot. We are working with the Dobsonville police in our fight against crime,” said Ndou.

He urged committed aspiring crime fighters to join CASE to give them the much-need manpower in their efforts to win the fight against crime.
