WATCH: Strokes FC pips contenders to the post in the Steven Pienaar Tournament

The team, whose mantra is, 'Strokes jou leka ding' and 'Hier kom daai mense!' clearly came, saw the competition, and booted them out of the tournament to win bragging rights and the R 100 000 first prize.


The Bill Jardine Stadium next to Highgate Shopping Mall in Westbury was packed on June 17 as the Annual Steven Pienaar Tournament drew to a close. The final was contested by Eldorado Park’s very own, Strokes FC who were pitted against Yorkshire FC of Davidsonville.

Strokes put on a fine display to beat Yorkshire FC 2-0.

The tournament started on June 9 and saw 24 teams throwing their hats in the ring as they vied for the top spot. This Sunday, the U9, U12,U15 and U19 ladies and the senior finals were played, drawing a huge crowd of soccer loving fanatics. Strokes emerged victorious after a tightly-contested battle against the Davidsonville outfit. Jade Dalton came off the bench to score a brace, taking the tally to 2-0 in Strokes’s favour.

Strokes have proven their mettle as tough competition in the annual tournament, walking away as champs in 2016 and are clearly tournament favourites after snatching the title away for the second time in three years.

Their coach, Nathan Davies said, “We worked hard during preparations for the tournament, sometimes training twice a day. All honour and glory must go to God as He guided us and gave us the strength to achieve this.”

Strokes FC held their own and represented Eldorado Park in the sport which still enjoys the most popularity out of all the other sporting codes played in the township.
