Eldos police recover a huge drug stash

JMPD K-9 unit received a tip-off and uncovered a huge amount of illicit drugs in Eldorado Park.

“The drug problem in our community is only getting worse, no matter how hard we try,” said Dereleen James, noted Eldorado Park, the anti-drug activist.

Early this month, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s (JMPD) K-9 unit received a tip-off and uncovered a huge amount of illicit drugs in Eldorado Park, Extension Nine.

A total of 554 Mandrax tablets and six bags of Mandrax powder was found at the drug house. The JMPD officers received a call about a Volkswagen Polo Vivo which was previously hijacked in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni.

The vehicle was traced to the hijacker’s house in Extension Nine. After identifying the vehicle, JMPD officials searched the residence and discovered the drug haul which was seized.

The MMC for Public Safety, Michael Sun, said in a statement that the ongoing drug problem in Eldorado Park is only getting worse.

“We have been receiving multiple complaints about the blatant drug dealing in Eldorado Park and our JMPD K-9 unit has been investigating the situation undercover. We knew it was a matter of time before this drug bust would be made,” said Sun.

Sun thanked and urged the community to continue assisting the JMPD with information on any criminal activities which would bring these criminals to book.

No arrests have been made, but investigations into the case continue.

Eldorado Park police communications officer, Fezeka Khobo said, “Police officials hope to arrest these criminals soon.”
