Big-screen debut for Eldos actor

Eldos actor Charlton Brown (41), was born and bred in Eldorado Park.

Charlton Brown (41), was born and bred in Eldorado Park. “One of my first memories is me being in Extension Six. I am a son of the Eldos soil,” Brown said.

He spent his teenage years living in Klipspruit West and completed his secondary education at Klipspuit West Secondary School.

“Back then, when youngsters finished school we needed to find work in order to help our families at home, so I worked in the corporate sphere for many years but always knew that art was what I wanted to do. I’ve been drawing since I can remember, it is my passion,” said Brown.

As he grew older, he became more interested in the entertainment industry, he dabbled with music, dancing and acting- this is where he realised that acting was something he wanted to pursue but could not do it full time because he needed a steady income in order to support his family.

He said, “Even though I was working, I still did commercials on the side and plays at church but after nine years of sitting at a desk, I decided to quit my job and pursue my passion.”

In 2012 Brown found an agent and started out as an extra on commercials. A few months later he decided to go for auditions in the hopes of kickstarting his acting career.

He decided that formal training was needed in order for him to be successful, so he applied for his training at Indigoview, an advanced actors’ academy.

Brown previously played the role of an IT specialist on Scandal – eTV. He landed the role of an investigator in popular Afrikaans soapie, 7de Laan. After many auditions and many, no’s, he is now starring in an Afrikaans comedy that will be out in cinemas on June 22.

The movie is titled ‘Thys & Trix’ and is a hilarious action comedy with Leandie du Randt Bosch and Bouwer Bosch in the lead roles. Thys and Trix are siblings who are eager, yet helpless police officers.

Their constant feuding results in their expulsion after it causes yet another embarrassment to the police service. Detective Solomons is investigating the activities of a crime syndicate in an exclusive golf estate outside Mosselbay.

Due to their ‘vanilla’ appearance, Thys and Trix are singled out for the first time as the most competent team to lead an investigation.

However, the fact that they must pretend to be a married couple to make the investigation credible, complicates the situation.

“I am extremely excited about this film and I just know it’s the beginning of many more roles to come,” said Brown.

He added that he wants to encourage everyone to follow their passion and that it’s never too late to make dreams a reality.

“I am not young anymore, at 41 I am starring in my first film. I am so proud of how far I’ve come, I want to encourage those who are my age and older to follow their dreams. It’s never too late,” he said.
