AFF caring for the elderly and people with disability

Also, to donate food items or volunteers your services to the foundation, you can contact the founder, Leigh Ferley.

A non-profit organisation by the name of Agnes Ferley Foundation focuses on senior citizens and people with disabilities.

Founded by Leigh Ferley in 2016, when the Riverlea resident realised that her calling was to look after the elderly and people with disabilities.

When asked where her passion for working with the seniors came from Ferley said: “I don’t know, I wanted this organisation to look after children but then God put it in mind that I’m also getting old and who will look after me. Now I look after the seniors and I take that as my calling.”

According to Ferley, the organisations looks after senior citizens in the community but she would like it to be a home-based organisation that provides the seniors with meals three times a day.

“We also go clean the seniors’ homes, we take care of them, bath them and give them the love and care that they deserve. We also look after people with disabilities where we get sponsors to provide wheelchairs and whatever they need,” added Ferley.

The founder manages to host a year-end function every year for the senior citizens of Riverlea. She explained that she went to Social Development to ask if they can sponsor them with a place where they can cook for the seniors and have physios for them. Currently, the organisation runs from Ferley’s home.

Ferley said: “When I say I look after seniors I mean that I look for ways to cut their expenses so that when they receive pension, that little pension money which they get can be for them to treat themselves to anything thing that they like. For example, to buy them nice shoes and clothes, they shouldn’t be spending all their money on medication, transportation to the hospitals, food and so on.”

Ferley would like the seniors to hand in their ID copies as well as the ID copies of the people with whom they live with.

“I don’t want to know of who gets grants or whatever but I need to know how many people are living in the house in order to cater not just for the senior but their entire family,” she said.

The founder said that she has a lot of plans for the seniors but is in need of sponsors. If you are able to donate food items or volunteers your services to the foundation, you can contact Leigh Ferley on 065 996 7830.

For the ID copy drop off’s you can go to her home address at 101 Colorado Drive, Riverlea.
