Today’s youth versus the youth of ’76. Here are Zola’s thoughts:

Many are of the opinion that this crop of South African youth have forgotten what their 1976 peers sacrificed in order that they are able to enjoy the rights and freedoms they have today.



I don’t have much of an opinion on how people celebrate their youth day because the youth of ’76 had a purpose  and we all have our different perspectives on what that educational freedom means to us. Hazel Mokgetshe


Right now June 16 is like Christmas in the black community, people of all ages now dress up in school uniform and all they do is sit in parks and drink alcohol which is not on at all. -Sipho Dlamini.


I feel that the youth of ’76 behaved in a right way because they fought for something that could give them a better future. I haven’t really had a close look at the youth of today, but one thing I don’t like is the crimes young people commit. Back in our day, there wasn’t as much crime as there is now.-Themba Msimango.


For us, the 76’ struggle was one where we wanted to change things and even though I was not too much into politics, I am still thankful for what happened. The thing I don’t like is that the young of today are losing the whole aim of what the ’76 youth fought for.-Zwelakhe Jozi
