LISTEN: 20 Soweto business owners finally receive their title deeds

This is the first time COJ gives title deeds to business owners.

City of Joburg Executive Mayor, Herman Mashaba, expressed delight during a handover of title deeds to Soweto business owners. The mayor stated that Soweto businesspeople can now have a chance to build on strong foundations having earned full-rights to own their business properties.

The event took place at the Diepkloof Multi-Purpose Centre.

Tshepo Mhlongo said, “The process of Land Regularisation is an important initiative, which, if tackled effectively will act as a catalyst for a kind of development which benefits communities, small enterprises and developers.”

Mhlongo said, “Landlord ownership has been a topical issue across all sectors in South Africa. It is part of how South Africans create their livelihoods and build legacies for generations to come.”

Mayor Mashaba understands the pivotal role that land ownership play in stimulating economic growth and paving the way for wealth creation amongst those who did not previously have access to such opportunities.
