PEMS church fights for land it never had

The struggle for land continues.

Congregants from the Parish Evangelic Missionary Society (PEMS) church in Naledi are in shambles as they have been seeking a room over their heads for more than 20 years.

According to church representatives, the team of congregants have been sent from pillar to post regarding buying land they can develop into a church.

The church had identified a piece of land that has not been occupied till today and has knocked on all doors trying to get that piece of land.

The one thing that upsets this group of congregants is that a few houses away from the land they identified, the land has been occupied yet they have been appealing for land for many years with no success.

During this year, the most recent attempt they made to get this land has resulted in yet another dead end with the team being sent as far as Pretoria but still don’t have a response.

“We have knocked on every councillors door but none of them have really given us any help. We have even gone as far as paying R3000 for this stand but our money has gone to waste because the land was never allocated to us.

“In our recent attempt, we were sent to town and from town, we were sent to City Parks in Braamfontein but when we got there we were told that the person who deals with land is in Pretoria.

“We attempted to contact the person from Pretoria called Mr Mhlongo so that we can set up an appointment with him. In response, this Mr Mhlongo told us not to contact him on a Sunday and when we tried contacting him again, we couldn’t get hold of him,” said Seabata Motsapi, one of the leaders in the church.

Currently, the group of PEMS members are making use of a backroom in Naledi as a church while they continue trying to find a way of acquiring the piece of land.
