Hurricane Mob, bringing together hip-hop elements

Talented artists create a Hip Hop Hurricane.

Hurricane Mob is a music group founded by Hurricane Ceasar (Jonathan van der Haer) and Slim Kid (Keenan Swarts). The group was formed earlier this year bringing together Hip-Hop elements from poets, rappers, artists and dances. The group consists of eleven individuals from Bomont, Waterval and Fietas.

The members are Jordan Block who is the group’s manager and photographer, Wayne Botlhoko is a photographer, Bayden Collopen a poet, Shannon an artist and the rappers are Hurricane Ceasar, Slim Kid, Tale, Acidous, Amzo.B and Hallucination Ted with Krazy Tony being the music producer.

According to the group’s manager, the main aim of the group is to promote various talent and gain mainstream exposure from the various members.

Hurricane Ceasar explained that the different members do different types of Hip Hop.

“We very pure in writing our lyrics in a sense that we do not write for each other. Everyone has their own stories so I cannot tell another’s story because I cannot write what you felt during your experiences.

“Rather have a true story so that others can relate to it. Slim Kid does trap music, some do old school Hip Hop rap and I do Kasi rap.”

When asked what types of lyrics are in their music, Block said: “A lot of our music is different, it’s not based on the same subject matter.

“It’s more about personal experiences like love, robbery, fights, heartbreak, things that affect us and so on. We also have this freestyle that we call the ‘Shane said’ where we share things that we believe in such as black pride.”

As individual artists, they have about seven mixtapes but they haven’t released one as a group as yet.

“We honest. If you listen to other rappers outside of our group you will hear things like: ‘I have 700 gold chains, I have two bad chicks’ and that’s all lies, you catching taxi’s or walking just like us, because of our honesty an honest guy can relate to our music,” answered Block to the question; What makes you different to the other rappers? Triston Bailey who is known as Acidous said that he doesn’t do much in the group but the guys just inspire him to do more and better.

“There’s a lot of talent behind the name Hurricane Mob,” he said.

The current age group is between 17 and 25 years old but the group welcomes more members from 15 to 35 years of age to join.
