EW Hobbs Primary School gets this year’s seniors ready for high school
The guest speakers shared a treasure trove of information with the youngsters, encouraging them to remain focused and plan a better future for themselves as they get ready for next year.
On May 26 , E.W Hobbs Primary School in Eldorado Park, Extension Two hosted a motivational workshop for their Grade Seven learners who are considered the seniors as they will be progressing to secondary school next year.
Educators from the school were unanimous in their decision that these needed to be reminded of how important good behaviour and studying hard is because they are so close to going to high school. The school wants to ensure that the class of 2018 will be ready for next year.
“Motivation is important because it is what causes us to actively look for resources to guarantee our success. That is why this motivational session was so important for our grade seven learners.” said mr. Smith, one of the Grade Seven teachers at the school.
The workshop was held in the school hall where several guest speakers, themselves products of Eldorado Park, came to speak to the learners in the hope of motivating and encouraging them. The guest speakers are currently working or have completed their tertiary studies and are successful in their own right.
The speakers included Marcel Kleinsmith, who is a medical doctor and an award winning DJ, Bronwan Smith, a doctorate pathology student, charted accountant- Lauren Smith, lawyers Melissa and Kevin Smith, corporate communications and marketing graduate, Nicole Smith, Junior Mngomezulu who is a candidate lawyer, Chanel Morris- a forensic scientist and Neil Christian, who is a pastor and civil engineer.
Each of the speakers were afforded the opportunity to talk about their personal experiences and the challenges hey faced and a common thread in all their lives was that they chose to work hard and to stay focused, no matter what distractions or hindrances presented themselves along the way.
The learners had the chance to interact with the speakers for some one-on-one conversation and motivation. “Our learners learned a lot and are inspired to be better and do better. They told me that the workshop made them start thinking about what they want for their future. Saturday was a success,” said Smith.
