‘Bosmont isn’t the well maintained place it was’ – Alexander

Alexander has endless stresses because he is not happy with the state that he and his neighbours are living in.

Alexander Solomon’s (70) has been living in Bosmont for over forty years now and has said that the area is in its worst state. Solomon’s is concerned that the reports of the street light not operating is not been taken seriously by City Power as well as the council.

The crime rate in the area has increased and Solomon identified the Newclare Cemetery as one of the problematic areas because he noticed that strange characters have been roaming the area and then they disappear into the cemetery.

In the past few months, there have been many break-ins. According to Solomon’s suspects jumped into the neighbour’s yard and then stole things from the property.

“The streets are so dark so residents cannot see who is hiding in the trees and in the field across the road,” said the concerned resident.

According to Solomon’s the suspects break into the houses and then the getaway car is usually parked on the freeway.

The residents said that there are three to four escape routes which suspects take to get out of the area.

The Bosmont Community Patrol Forum and the Sophiatown police officers drive through the area but they do not patrol early hours of the morning when these break-ins take place.

According to Solomon’s, there are six streets that haven’t been operating for months. The senior citizen also has a concern about the grass which is growing into the streets.

Sewage from Highgate Shopping Centre flows in the ditch next to the houses.

“I’m always on the lookout for my neighbours and for the past five years I have been reporting the sewage which runs down the ditch, this is between the residential area and the Maraisburg freeway,” said the resident.

If you stand in the street, the stench just hits your nose and Solomon feels as though his complaints are falling on deaf ears as he sees nothing is changing in his area.

The grass was cut about a month ago but this was after seven months. Solomon’s explained that the grass is usually long and this is also a danger to them because the thieves hide in the long grass.
