Water off in Coronationville for 24 hrs

Coronationville residents woke up to no water this morning.

Yesterday, a media release was sent out stating that Rand Water has completed repairs at their Eikenhof pump station.

According to Cllr Nico de Jager from the Department of Environment and Infrastructure Services, “The Hursthill reservoir supplying the area west of the double-decker highway is the last of the reservoirs to be filled.

“That reservoir is currently at 15% and we will only open the reservoir once at 30%. If we open the reservoir sooner we run the risk of the reservoir running empty again.

“This happened as a result of cable theft on the side of Emfuleni. Between Eskom and Emfuleni it took them three days to restore the cable fault and Rand Water could not pump from their side to fill the reservoirs in Johannesburg supplied by this line.

“We expect to start opening the reservoir by lunchtime today and by this evening reticulation should be fully restored,” said Cllr Nico.

Areas that were affected were:

– Protea Glen Shoprite
– Protea Glen corner umgen & vaal street ext31
– Protea Glen prestige college ext26
– Protea Glen elenrige market pick n pay ext26
– Orlando police station
– Orlando clinic
– Orlando community hall
– Westdene Perth Road
– Helen Joseph hospital
– Crosby Foyle Ave corner Ingleby Street
– Crosby clinic
– Coronation vile corner Fuel road
– Oudtshoorn Street at Rahima Moosa hospital

Sophiatown Edward Street corner Meyer next to KFC in the shopping centre. Eight water tanks were placed in the areas, two at the local police stations and six at a few old age homes. The two hospitals were also included in with the refill tanks when required

“Water has been opened and reservoirs are currently filling up. We expect that this should take approximately 8 hours as from 9 am this morning and then water will then we restored to the affected residents,” said the media release yesterday.

After a day Coronationville residents still woke up to no water this morning.
