Annual Steven Pienaar Tournament draws crowds to Westbury Soccer Grounds

Supporters cheered the winners on and the day was all about the love for the beautiful game

The Steven Pienaar Community Cup started last week with 135 teams participating and knocking each other out in the round robin games. The tournament is in its second week and today the junior league had coaches and parents all on the lines at the Westbury soccer grounds.

Girl teams played against boy teams and there were a few mixed teams too. Players as young as 2 years old were on the field chasing after the ball while strikers tried to make their way to the goal posts .

The weather did not affect the turnout of supporters, soccer enthusiasts from Westbury cheered only for the Westbury teams and if the outside teams such as Panorama from Florida won the match, the supporters didn’t stop directing and cheering for their home teams.

The matches will go on for the entire day and tomorrow you can find the super league playing on the same grounds. Games start at 9am every weekend until June 16 with the finals of the tournament.
