JRA working hard to clear Dobsie roads

Motorists welcomed the campaign, adding that these areas have largely been ignored by JRA

The Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) is on a mission to rehabilitate Soweto roads in an attempt to make our roads user-friendly. They believe that the initiative will help to save lives and protect the volume of cars travelling on the roads.

According to JRA spokesperson, Bertha Schipper, this is part of their ongoing Level One maintenance plan.
She said, “Our members of the staff are fixing the stormwater drains, repairing potholes and clearing overgrown grass and brush on the roads and sidewalks.
“The objective is to make our roads and sidewalks much safer and user-friendly to Jo’burg residents using the roads.
“The initiative also aimed at giving road users easy access to roads.”

She said the JRA Region D staff have designed a working schedule for Soweto and the Region D area. Schipper said they have visited different wards and Soweto townships depending on their maintenance schedule.

Schipper urged the community to help them in identifying missing stop signs, replacing road markings, missing guardrails and fixing blocked stormwater drains in Region D.

Motorist Lesego Tau said that more needs to be done to build roads in areas such as Bramfischerville and Slovoville.

He said, “The money they used to fix potholes in most parts of Soweto should have been allocated to alleviating the problem in Bramfischerville and Slovoville.

“Those areas have been in existence for quite a long time without useable roads,” said Tau.

Residents can phone JRA every time they identify roads which are in need of maintenance. They are requested to contact JRA on 086 055 62874 or email at hotline@jra.org.za.
