South Africa has lost another legendary musician Dr Philip Tabane. His family confirmed his death on Friday morning (18 May 2018) after he was admitted to Mamelodi hospital in Pretoria two days ago due to an age-related illness .

The story goes that a journalist once came up to Dr Philip Tabane after a gig and said, "Oh man, you play so well. Do you know Wes Montgomery?"
To which he is said to have replied: "Does Wes Montgomery know Philip Tabane?"

Tabane was known for his hits Nkupi and Muvhango. Born in Pretoria, he began making music at a young age and formed the music trio The Malombo Jazz Men.
He was honoured for his contribution in music at the 1998 South African Music Awards where he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Here are some of his most memorable performances:
