WANTED: Murder suspect escapes from custody

Police searching for a suspect who's on the run.

The Kliptown police are urging residents to be on the lookout for the pictured suspect, who escaped from the Lawley Police Station holding cells after appearing at the Lenasia Magistrate Court on charges of murder and armed robbery.

According to police, the 32-year-old shot and killed a man in Walter Sisulu Square, Kliptown, on April 20 this year.

Witnesses confirmed that his victim was asleep in a shack when the escapee broke in and fired shots. The man was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.



After the shooting, he is alleged to have robbed another man, taking his cellphone before robbing a tavern in the area and making off with liquor and an undisclosed sum of cash.

Njabulo was found a few hours later and was arrested and detained at the Kliptown Police Station on April 20.

He appeared at the Lenasia Magistrate Court and was detained at the Lawley holding cells where he escaped a few days later.



The magistrate has issued a warrant for his arrest and the investigating officer, detective warrant officer, Mashaile Motse, confirmed that he is still on the run.

The South African Police Service have asked for the community’s help in locating Njabulo and have issued a warning that he should not be approached as he is possibly armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information which may lead to his apprehension is asked to contact detective warrant officer Mashaile Motse on 082 782 1769.
