Eldos police arrest 22-year-old for sexual assault
South African Police Service urge women to be wary of who they trust.
A 22-year-old man was arrested for sexually assaulting a woman in Eldorado Park Extension Eight. According to the victim, she received a call from the man who asked her to accompany him to a nearby bottle store.
The woman said she didn’t think anything of it because the man was someone she knew. She said that she became suspicious when he refused to drop her off at home.
“He drove past my house, I asked him to stop but he refused. He just kept on driving,” she said.
The pair arrived at the man’s home where they met his friend who was sitting in the room.
“They started drinking and smoking and after a while they became aggressive,” the victim said.
According to the woman, the accused’s friend pushed her onto the bed and held her down while the accused forcefully removed her clothing and underwear. The next morning she was found by her uncle who took her home.
Captain Phillemon Khorombi of the Eldorado Park police confirmed that the man was arrested and detained at the police station.
Khorombi appealed to women to be more vigilant and careful of who they trust. He urged victims to report any sexual violence immediately.
“Many rape cases involve men who these girls know,” said Khorombi.
The case is still under investigation.
