‘Advising your child is the best thing to do’

Bullying is evil in its nature.

The learners from Ikaneng Primary School were empowered by life-related lessons when the health promoter, nurse Doris Davids along with the personnel from the Emergency Management Services (EMS) and from Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) went to feed them with knowledge because knowledge is power.

Mphonyane Selina Makau from Dube Besafe cautioned the young learners that bullying was evil in its nature, and how they needed to pass their matric to make sure that they had a chance to make it in the emergency management services.

Tshegofatso Masilo, Lehlogonolo Ramphamane, and Makgotso loved learning new things.

The children, whose memory proved to have retained the lessons of the day were happy to have welcomed the visitors in their school and to have learned.

One learner who was listening to the visitors was Tshegofatso Masilo who said that she had learned about road safety and how to cross the road.

Masilo said, “I have learnt how to cross the road, first you look right, then left then right again.”

Makau told the children about the toll-free numbers 112 and 10177 and that they should always know the numbers by heart in case of any emergencies.

Makau said, “We know that it may be very difficult sometimes, but always try to stay calm during an emergency, be patient and always be ready with your name, surname, residential address and health history.”

Makau explained that the EMS consists of the fire department and the ambulance and they both need at least matric at entry level.

The teacher from the school, Kate Maluleke expressed the school’s gratitude for the attention and urged the parents to be hands-on in helping their children in school.

Another learner from the school, Lehlogonolo Ramphamane said, “Bullying is bad.”
