Church gets kicked out of school

A glimpse of light for home seekers.

A forum comprised of church representatives are disgruntled after they were kicked out of the school they use as a place of worship.
Just before the Easter holiday began, the group of churches that have been using Impumelelo Combined School as their place of worship were served with an official eviction notice.

According to the forum’s representatives, last December the school requested that churches re-apply for space to rent at the school even though the churches had never needed to do this before in the many years of using the school.

During 2018, the school’s principal allegedly started harassing different churches and has been in talks with churches about finding a different place to use as a church.

Different churches then started getting eviction notices to leave the church at the time just before the Easter started.

“We didn’t have any Easter, all the churches. A week before Easter, we visited the school hoping that we could meet with the principal but to our surprise, we found posters placed all over the school saying that no churches were allowed.

“When Easter came, we still hadn’t met with the principal and we couldn’t use the school because we found the gates locked. Till today, the principal has never had a formal meeting to explain why he wants us to leave the school and why he is doing all these things he is doing to us,” said Thulani Simelane a member of the church forum representatives.

The school referred all queries to The Department of Education. DOE has been approached about the matter and is investigating the matter pending a response.
