Keep A Girl Child In School Happy And Motivated (Kagcisham)

Help Kagcisham empower our children.

Keep A Girl Child In School Happy And Motivated (Kagcisham) has pledged to give 100 disadvantaged children the rare opportunity of camping in Durban this June.

The Glenridge based non-profit organisation (NPO) requires assistance from the public to make the dreams of these children come true.

“The reason for the camp is that the children we deal with don’t get the opportunity to go on school excursions. They don’t participate in school activities that require money so we feel that for us to motivate them we can have our own excursion,” said Amelia Zulu, Kagcisham’s founder and chairperson.

The camp will be a week long so as to give children an opportunity to explore the City of Durban and all it has to offer. “The camp will be seven days long. We have arranged for them to take a tour of Moses Mabhida Stadium and visit uShaka Marine World so far,” Zulu continued.

Kagcisham will require R350 000 to make this trip a success and will be hosting multiple fundraisers in the coming two months to raise the funds.

“We’ve planned a number of fundraisers and we are urging the public to support us so we can keep our children motivated and in school,” Zulu said.

One of the fundraisers the NPO will be hosting in partnership with the Department of Sports and Recreation is a mini FIFA World Cup which will be held on June 2. Tickets and refreshments will be sold at the venue which is soon to be announced.

Kagcisham currently has 120 members and assists them in a multitude of ways such as providing them with essentials like sanitary pads and other toiletries monthly and providing counselling services amongst other things.

They hosted their monthly giveaway event which was sponsored by Roman’s Pizza last week at Joe Gqabi Centre in Protea Glen.

Zulu is a psychologist by profession and was inspired to start the NPO after working at Protea Glen Police Station and seeing the harm that came to children.

“Working at the police was one of the most hardcore experiences I’ve ever gone through. The cases I dealt with there were so difficult and touching and they mostly involved children,” Zulu expressed.
