WATCH: Gospel choirs are as effective as the word

Gospel Southern Melodies (GSM) and Mighty Stars of Africa brought all the entertainment.

The show featuring Gospel Southern Melodies (GSM) and Mighty Stars of Africa was as uplifting as it was entertaining for everyone who attended.

The show only had two choirs, both from Diepkloof singing their hearts out for the audience that was made up of the parents, families, and friends of the singers in the choirs.

Hloni Makatelele of GSM explained that the shows were their way of staying relevant and in touch with the community.

Makatelele said, “We have been focusing on the music and we would love the people to hear what we have been up to.”

One parent who attended the show, Thandeka Bomvana went to support her daughter, Malehohonolo Bomvana-Ramatlo.

Bomvana said, “It wasn’t until I attended one of their shows that I realised how serious this is and how much potential she has from her singing.”

Simphiwe Maluleke stole the show while conducting for GSM, and he had one of his friends, Ofentse Maphosho aka Madora come give support.

Madora said, “The show was so awesome and spiritual, it was very uplifting. I am really touched.”

“Initially the choir was founded on the belief that music can heal people, so we want to heal people with our music above all else,” according to Makatelele.

The choir from Diepkloof does not only compose and perform their own songs but also sample songs from differing genres.

Maluleke said, “We pray so hard in preparation for this day and it is evident that God is alive and active.”
