Godisang, an organisation for the people

Godisang Development combating unemployment.

Godisang Development is a non-profit organisation, aimed at fighting unemployment in communities around Gauteng and runs community-based efforts that actively seek opportunities for the youth, offer pertinent skills to communities in relevant industries and equip individuals with life skills in self-improvement and job preparedness.

As a way of combating unemployment, the organisation has launched a Job Seeking Centre Programme, which is an initiative by the Department of Social Development, Lulaway is the service provider.

The programme essentially seeks to present job opportunities closer to unemployed people in more disadvantaged communities.

Pimville is very fortunate to be one of the communities selected to benefit from this initiative. The job centre is based at the Pimville Community Centre and will be assisting residents with finding jobs.

Godisang has a range of other comprehensive programmes such as hospitality, hair and beauty as well as artisan training.

“We run a number of youth programmes all aimed at poverty alleviation strategies. Our programmes are basically aimed at young people, particularly young mothers, South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) recipients.

“We also work with social workers and our team that does house to house to assist in identifying those who need assistance. We are basically seeking to help the poor,” said Arthur Mavuso, Godisang Development Project Coordinator and Marketing.

Because they offer jobs such as cleaning, domestic working, car washing etc. you don’t need to have any qualification to register with them.

“We would like to create a platform whereby communities are aware so that they can take advantage of the opportunities we are offering to them,” Mavuso concluded.
