Why should you start a business?

All her struggles led to the start of Imageworks SA.

The founder of Imageworks SA has over 10 years’ experience in the corporate world and, having qualified as an international stylist, founded Imageworks SA in 2017 to elevate individual and organisational brands.

Imageworks SA founder, Feroza Aitken said, “We strive to achieve affordable skills transfers for the youth. With our fashion courses designed to empower them to start their own businesses as fashion or personal stylists. We provide a free course to an underprivileged student for every ten paying students.”

She continued, “We understand the importance of brand development and how you as an individual or organisation can influence customer perceptions based on various things such as your dress code. We strive to become one of the leading image training institutes.”

So here’s a little background information about the 30-year-old female entrepreneur, Feroza Aitken.

She said, “I grew up in Eldorado Park and finished my matric at Eldorado Park Senior Secondary School. My parents couldn’t afford to send me to university, so I went straight into the working world and spent the last 10 years in the banking industry, four years of which were spent in Cape Town.

“As a child, I always fantasized about travelling and living a completely different life. We never went hungry, but we never enjoyed family vacations either. I always yearned to live a purposeful life that impacts, but didn’t know how to get there.”

Aitken said that after much prayer and wrestling, her entrepreneurial journey started in 2016.

“I initially started selling handmade hair products to opening a beauty salon, I have changed business names more times than I care to remember and lost thousands of Rands in the process, but all this laid the foundation of my current business.

“I had no mentor and everything was by trial and error. I realized how difficult it is for anyone, especially young people, to start and why so many businesses fail, but also that many people desire to go into business, but are not sure what to do.”

“I started Imageworks SA with the aim of empowering young people interested in fashion, but who are not designers, to start their own businesses. The image consultant or personal stylist industry is on the rise and require low overheads since it’s a service business.

“We offer a 2-in-1 course that includes a basic business plan as well as ongoing support. My aim is to change the narrative. Instead of looking for work, the youth should be creating jobs.”
